Who we are

2026 Leaders

Kia ora,

My name is Hollie Thomas, and I am incredibly proud to not only be a student at Rangitīkei College, but also to be one of our Head Prefects this year. This has always been a dream of mine, and I am honoured to be part of the dedicated 2026 prefect team.

I moved to Rangitīkei at the start of Year 11 and was extremely nervous about beginning my senior years at a new school, but my whānau and I could not have chosen a better kura. On my first day, I met the 2024 Head Prefects, who made me feel welcome in a new and unfamiliar environment. That moment has stayed with me, as it reminds me of a time when I felt unsure but found guidance in strong leaders. I hope to provide that same support for everyone in our kura.

I grew up in the Manawatū and now live in Parewanui. I am the oldest of four siblings and love getting involved in all aspects of school life. This includes being captain of the Senior A netball team, Tararua House Captain, and one of the student representatives on the School Board. Above all, I value being a student, a teammate, and a friend to many across our kura, and I feel very grateful to be part of such a warm and supportive community.

Our prefect team this year is full of strong leaders, and I am confident that together we will persevere and overcome any challenges that come our way. I strive to be helpful and approachable, and to support anyone who needs it. I am excited to make my mark this year and hope to be a friendly face and an encouraging voice within our kura. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with you all.

Ngā mihi nui,

Hollie Thomas
Head Prefect

Kia ora,

My name is Max Skates, and I am one of the Head Prefects alongside Hollie for 2026. I am honoured to be able to lead alongside an amazing team of prefects this year and to get involved around the school and wider community.

I live in Bulls and have two younger siblings, one of whom is in Year 11. I enjoy music and playing sport, and during my time at college I have been given many opportunities to perform and compete outside of school. Being part of the band and the hockey team has shown me that leadership is not about standing in front and making all the decisions, but about standing alongside your team and supporting everyone to be the best versions of themselves.

I do not remember much of Year 9, but I clearly remember seeing student leaders around the school creating a positive environment. This is something I strive to do for all students throughout the year. I want to be a visible leader so students feel comfortable approaching me and asking questions.

Rangitīkei College has offered me many opportunities, which is something I really value about our small school. I have been able to attend Rockquest in Whanganui, a hockey tournament in Taupō, and school camps to Sixtus Lodge and Kāpiti Island.

I am incredibly lucky to be part of such a strong prefect team, and we are excited to get started and see where the year takes us. If you have any questions, please reach out. Do not be afraid to ask, we are here to help.

Here’s to a great year,

Max Skates
Head Prefect
